Brookline News: August 2006

Keith from Brookline writes:

"We had some steam built up after the Earth Day clean up and our board agreed formally to espouse a CAL Brookline group when we adjourned for the summer, be we have been unable to do the organizational work to get it going as a self sustaining group. However, we are reconvening in September so we will try to refocus our efforts.

I still pick up litter on Brookline Boulevard with my dog CJ. I collect about three or four bags a week, which isn't much but it's the best I can do for now. The doggie doo bag dispensers have been kept refilled and they seem to help. Also I did the Tremont alley myself three times this summer, the last time just before the All Star game. I don't know what condition it's in now, but it can't be as bad as it was. Also, I now take extra bags with me when I go fishing on the rivers and elsewhere. I took four bags of soda bottles, bait containers and other fisherman garbage off the rip-rap wall at the Harmerville lock and damn. It looked so nice afterward.

I'll give you a heads-up in late September to see if any progress has been made. Glad to hear that things are going well with your other groups. I biked through Hazelwood the other week on my way to Squirrel Hill and it looked a lot better. I didn't see much trash and they tore down a lot of the delapidated buldings. Do they have a group?"
