This spring's Redd Up forecast: 300 communities & 15,000 volunteers to collect 300 tons of litter

This spring's area-wide Redd Up (March, April and May) is on a pace to attract more than 300 Pittsburgh neighborhoods, groups and communities in the counties of Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Washington and Westmoreland.

Citizens Against Litter, one of the organizers, expects more than 15,000 volunteers to collect a conservative-estimated 300 tons of litter. "Our projection is based on the ones we know about," said Boris Weinstein. "We believe the actual number of participants will be significantly larger."

Hundreds of Duquesne University students will join residents in South Side Flats, South Side Slopes, Uptown and the Hill District on Saturday, April 12.

People interested in volunteering and finding a neighborhood to hook up with should contact Boris Weinstein at 412-688-9120 or e-mail boris.weinstein@verizon.net.
