Redd Ups a longstanding Pittsburgh tradition

One hundred years ago this month, Pittsburgh held a two week long community-wide cleanup campaign. Pittsburgh's "Clean-up, Spruce-up and Paint-up" campaign opened with a Downtown parade on May Day and concluded on May 15 with "Inspection Day," which was devoted to making "everything spick and span to close the campaign."

A lot has changed in 100 years, but the battle to keep our city clean has not. Thanks to everyone who made the Redd Ups held this spring a success.

For a sampling of photos from the recent Redd Up events, head on over to our Flickr page or check out albums from neighborhood efforts in Elliott and the South Side Slopes.
